The Ups & Downs of Going to Saul, 2008

Thursday 26th June

Having filled up the water tank we joined the queue for the two pairs of staircase locks down to the river. Because of the number of boats it took up well over a hour to get onto the river, which is B O R I N G! Because it flows between high banks with trees on either side you can’t see anything beyond the banks - the only time you get anything to look at it when you come to a bridge or a riverside town.

Stourport Basin - note the Big Wheel (left hand side) - there's a permanent Amusement Park here.

Formation Boating - Tea, anyone??

There are some nice riverside houses.............

VERY nice!!

We thought to moor at Upton but the moorings on the river were all full (except for one which was for the trip boat) and poking our nose into the marina revealed a lot of expensive white GRP so we beat a hasty retreat, continued downstream and ended up on the LANT moorings below Tewksbury Lock on the Avon - a very quiet mooring.

No Digi TV - analogue ITV only.

Tiller Pin of the Day - Swimming Duck

Totals: 67 miles, 3 furlongs, 54 locks
